        "content": "<p>Strike paralyzes Palangkaraya<\/p>\n<p>PALANGKARAYA, Central Kalimantan: Scores of city bus drivers<br>\nwent on strike yesterday, paralyzing public transportation in<br>\ntown for the whole day.<\/p>\n<p>They are demanding that the government stop the illegal<br>\nminibuses that have been roaming the city streets and cutting<br>\ninto their incomes over the past six months.<\/p>\n<p>Antara reported that the daily income of a legal driver has<br>\ndropped from an average of Rp 75,000 (US$34) to as low as Rp<br>\n30,000 a day since the illegal buses were present.<\/p>\n<p>\"Our demand is clear: Stop the illegal buses,\" said one<br>\nprotester who requested anonymity.<\/p>\n<p>Palangkaraya mayor Nahson Taway, who met the strikers,<br>\npromised that the government would crack down on the illegal<br>\nvans.
