        "content": "<p>Strike paralyses two RP cities<\/p>\n<p>DAVAO, Philippines (Reuters): Bus and taxi drivers barricaded<br>\nroads and paralyzed two cities yesterday in the southern<br>\nPhilippines in a transport strike to protest fuel price<br>\nincreases, police said.<\/p>\n<p>There was no violence but the strike forced banks, shopping<br>\nmalls, cinemas and many private offices and schools in Davao and<br>\nGeneral Santos city to close after employees failed to front for<br>\nwork, they said.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;All our public conveyances are paralyzed because the strikers<br>\nbarricaded the roads with wooden boxes and tree trunks,&quot; Police<br>\nMajor Dionisio Hicban said by telephone from General Santos, on<br>\nMindanao island, 800 kilometers south of Manila.<\/p>\n<p>The strikes were organized by leftist unions headed by the May<br>\n1st Movement which demanded a roll-back in fuel prices and<br>\nopposed the recent approval by a congressional panel of a bill<br>\nfreeing the oil industry from state control.<\/p>",
