JAKARTA - The Indonesia Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC) has\nofficially joined the Indo-Pacific business alliance, which encompasses\n21 countries, to strengthen its role in connecting Indonesian business\nactors with trade and investment opportunities in Canada and the region.\nThis is because Indonesia is considered to have a strategic position in\nCanada\u2019s relations with the Indo-Pacific region.<\/p>\n
This agreement is outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)\nsigned and witnessed by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on 16 April\n2026.<\/p>\n
ICCC Chair Vivien Kusumowardhani stated that this moment marks the\nfirst time Canadian chambers of commerce across the entire Indo-Pacific\nregion have been brought together on a single collaborative\nplatform.<\/p>\n
For ICCC, this step reflects a shift towards a more coordinated\nregional approach, amid increasingly tight competition in attracting\ninvestment and strengthening supply chain positions in Southeast Asia\n(ASEAN).<\/p>\n
\u201cIndonesia has long been part of Canada\u2019s Indo-Pacific strategy.\nThrough the signing of this memorandum of understanding, ICCC can play a\nmore active role in shaping the direction of regional trade and\ninvestment discussions,\u201d said Vivien in a press statement on Friday\n(17\/4\/2026).<\/p>\n
Vivien explained that as one of the largest and fastest-growing\neconomies in ASEAN, Indonesia is seen to have increasingly important\npotential. ICCC\u2019s joining of this alliance is also part of efforts to\nstrengthen the organisation\u2019s role in carrying out its mission.<\/p>\n
ICCC\u2019s mission is to increase Indonesia\u2019s visibility within the\nCanadian trade and investment network; encourage the implementation of\nmore targeted trade missions and partnerships towards Indonesia; provide\nclearer access for Canadian business actors to enter the Indonesian\nmarket; and open opportunities for ICCC members, both from Indonesia and\nCanada, to connect with the Indo-Pacific business network to capture\ncurrent global momentum and dynamics.<\/p>\n
\u201cGlobal companies are currently diversifying their supply chains and\nstrengthening their presence in Southeast Asia, with Indonesia\nincreasingly viewed as a priority market. Through the CCIP network, ICCC\nmembers have more opportunities to collaborate directly with partners in\nvarious countries in the Indo-Pacific region, as well as drive\ncross-country initiatives and market insight exchanges,\u201d she\nexplained.<\/p>\n
