Bank Indonesia (BI), together with the Central Inflation Control Team\n(TPIP) and the Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID), officially\nlaunched the Food Prosperity Inflation Control Movement (GPIPS) in East\nJava today, Wednesday (13\/5). GPIPS 2026 carries the theme \u201cSynergy in\nStrengthening Production, Post-Harvest, and Distribution for Food\nStability and National Welfare Amid Global Uncertainties.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bank Indonesia Deputy Governor Aida S. Budiman stated that GPIPS\nrepresents an evolution of the National Food Inflation Control Movement\n(GNPIP). This refinement is driven by the increasingly complex\nchallenges in price stability and food resilience, necessitating\nstronger synergy and more integrated programme implementation from\nupstream to downstream.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough GPIPS, food inflation control is not only focused on\nshort-term price stabilisation but also on strengthening food\nproduction, post-harvest handling, and distribution to support\nsustainable national food resilience,\u201d Aida explained during the GPIPS\nlaunch in East Java on Wednesday (13\/5\/2026).<\/p>\n
She explained that East Java was chosen due to its strategic role in\nthe national food resilience map. 2025 production data shows East Java\u2019s\ndominance in nearly all major food commodities, namely rice, corn,\ncayenne pepper, and shallots.<\/p>\n
In addition, East Java is the largest rice producer with a\ncontribution of 17.34% of national production, with a total output\nreaching 10.57 million tonnes.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis dominance is also reflected in East Java being the number one\nproducer of corn and cayenne pepper, while shallot production ranks\nsecond highest nationally. This superiority positions East Java as the\nbackbone of the government\u2019s 2026 priority programmes in achieving rice\nand corn self-sufficiency,\u201d Aida clarified.<\/p>\n
Beyond production capacity, East Java holds a strategic position as a\ntrade hub for eastern Indonesia, known in the national connectivity map\nas the New Nusantara Gateway. Through Tanjung Perak Port, East Java\nserves as the main distribution node connecting food logistics flows\nfrom Java to various regions in Sulawesi, Nusa Tenggara, Maluku, and\nPapua.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis geographical position makes East Java not only a food barn but\nalso a gateway for food distribution to millions of residents in eastern\nIndonesia. This is a highly relevant role in strengthening\nInter-Regional Cooperation (KAD) across regions,\u201d Aida elaborated.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, the presence of Bulog storage in East Java strengthens\nthe province\u2019s role in the national food resilience chain. Bulog\u2019s\nwarehouse capacity in East Java reaches 1.22 million tonnes, equivalent\nto 22.81% of the national warehouse capacity. This figure reflects the\nsignificant role of East Java in managing the country\u2019s food\nreserves.<\/p>\n
\u201cDominance in production, position as a distribution gateway for the\neastern region, and storage infrastructure capacity are three factors\nthat make East Java Province the appropriate and symbolic choice for the\nGrand Launching of GPIPS Java,\u201d Aida stated.<\/p>\n
On the same occasion, East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa\nappreciated BI\u2019s step in launching the GPIPS movement in East Java.<\/p>\n
\u201cThank you for launching GPIPS here in East Java, so that food\nprosperity can truly be realised and its benefits felt by the wider\ncommunity throughout Indonesia,\u201d Khofifah said.<\/p>\n
She outlined that the East Java region has Inflation Control\nShowcases (EPI) both at the district and city levels. These showcases\nare part of strengthening inter-regional cooperation for mutual price\ncontrol mitigation.<\/p>\n
