        "content": "<p>Streetlights running on borrowed power<\/p>\n<p>YOGYAKARTA: Illegally erected streetlights in Yogyakarta and<br>\nCentral Java have caused financial losses of over Rp 100 billion<br>\nto state-owned power firm PLN and the Central Java Distribution<br>\nOffice, an official has revealed.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the sidelines of a seminar on electricity usage<br>\nearlier this week, deputy head of the office's public relations<br>\ndivision Suwondo Kusumo said the problem had been ongoing since<br>\n2003.<\/p>\n<p>\"The regental administrations concerned erected the lamps but<br>\nnever paid for the electricity,\" Suwondo said.<\/p>\n<p>Suwondo said that many people assumed streetlight taxes went<br>\nto PLN, whereas, in fact they go directly to regental<br>\nadministrations.<\/p>\n<p>He said this meant people erected streetlights anywhere they<br>\nwanted to, without following the correct procedure.<\/p>\n<p>\"I regret that we do not have the right to take action against<br>\nthis illegal practice, as this matter is under the auspices of<br>\nthe regional governments,\" Suwondo said. --JP<\/p>",
