Kerkof, South Cimahi district, are<br>\ndisappointed at the measures taken by the Bandung authorities who<br>\nforcefully demolished the fence walls of the community to make<br>\nway for a road widening project. We considered the action<br>\nunpopular and one that ignored the people's aspirations.<\/p>\n<p>Historically, Jl. Kerkof was built by the Dutch colonial<br>\ngovernment and the fence and the building itself remain in the<br>\nformer position. The residents wish that land compensation be<br>\npaid based on Presidential Decision No. 55\/1993.<\/p>\n<p>But according to the project contractor the land compensation<br>\ncould not be considered because the fence walls surpass the<br>\nborderline of the street. In this case the contractor must prove<br>\nits allegation, and must not try to threaten the community and<br>\nmanipulate government regulations.<\/p>\n<p>Besides, the local authorities must be made aware of the<br>\npractice of the contractor who has given illegal compensation to<br>\nsome individuals.<\/p>\n<p>Name and address<\/p>\n<p>known to the Editor<\/p>",
