Street vendors to get loans<\/p>\n
YOGYAKARTA: The city administration has allocated a total of Rp 1
\nbillion for loans to street vendors across Yogyakarta.<\/p>\n
The money should be used to mend the tents or carriages used
\nfor selling their merchandise, or even make new ones, according
\nto Yogyakarta Mayor Herry Zudianto. He added that the loans would
\nbe interest-free.<\/p>\n
He said that street vendors would receive some Rp 1.5 million
\neach, to be repaid in installments.<\/p>\n
"With these loans, hopefully the vendors will contribute to
\nbuilding a good image for Yogyakarta and become one of the city's
\nattractions," he said.<\/p>\n
Herry also said the Yogyakarta administration was preparing a
\nregulation on street vendors. Under this regulation, street sales
\nwould be managed so as to create the image of Yogyakarta as a
\nclean city.<\/p>\n
"Under this regulation it is hoped that street vendors will no
\nlonger be able to position their carriages or tents just as they
