Street brawl in Bali broken up<\/p>\n
NEGARA, Bali (JP): Dozens of youths from the villages of
\nBanjar Tengah and Loloan in Negara, some 90 kilometers east of
\nDenpasar, clashed in a massive street fight early Thursday.<\/p>\n
No fatalities were reported, though a number of flower pots
\nwere overturned and a supermarket's front glass window was
\nshattered.<\/p>\n
Police dispersed the scuffle peacefully soon after arriving on
\nthe scene.<\/p>\n
No arrests were reported.<\/p>\n
Artawirata Dewa Putu, a resident of Jl. Gatot Subroto where
\nthe brawl took place, said the fight was the continuation of an
\nearlier conflict between two groups of juveniles on Sunday.<\/p>\n
"Those boys had a quarrel in a cafe on Jl. H.O.S. Cokroaminoto
\nand police had to disperse them and arrest some of them," he told
\nThe Jakarta Post.<\/p>\n
Sgt. Maj. Teja Sungkana of the Jembrana Police Precinct said
\nThursday's brawl was not an uncommon occurrence for residents and
\npolice in the area.<\/p>\n
"Sunday's and Thursday's quarrels weren't the first. They've
\noften happened here," he said.<\/p>\n
He said residents of Banjar Tengah village, the majority of
\nwhom are Hindu, and residents of Loloan, who are mostly Moslem,
\nhad been known to fight over trivial matters. (28)<\/p>",
