        "content": "<p>Storms delay RP satellite launch<\/p>\n<p>MANILA (DPA): Thunderstorms over the China launch site<br>\nyesterday delayed for 24 hours the takeoff of the first Filipino-<br>\nowned international communications satellite, officials said.<\/p>\n<p>The decision was made to cancel the fueling procedure as<br>\n&quot;lightning could disastrously jeopardize the entire project,&quot;<br>\nsaid Hector Villanueva, President Fidel Ramos&apos; press secretary.<\/p>\n<p>The satellite, named &quot;Agila&quot;, was originally scheduled to be<br>\nlaunched at 1:58 a.m yesterday at Xinchang, the southwest China<br>\nlaunch site, but was postponed until 1:50 a.m. today.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Heavy rains and thunderstorms prevented the fueling of the<br>\nlaunch vehicle,&quot; Villanueva said.<\/p>\n<p>Owned by the Mabuhay Philippine Satellite Corporation, Agila<br>\nis set to occupy a 144-degree east longitude slot.<\/p>",
