Stop Unas' conflict<\/p>\n

For more than a year, an internal conflict has rocked the
\nNational University (Unas), Jakarta. On Jan. 27, the Jakarta
\nCourt office decided that Oesman Rachman's (OR) party had to
\nleave Unas and surrender the university's assets to Sutan Takdir
\nAlisjahbana (STA).<\/p>\n
The two parties may not benefit from the conflict, but 160
\nstaff and lecturers have to suffer. Without any explanation, the
\nparty of Oesman Rachman has forbidden us (the staff and
\nlecturers) to work or give lectures since July 1993. This means
\nthat we do not get any salary.<\/p>\n
Indeed for the first three months, Sutan Takdir Alisjahbana
\npaid our salary from his private funds, but certainly this cannot
\ngo on because we are Unas employees. So we have had to sell all
\nof our belongings to survive and our children have had to stop
\ntheir studies.<\/p>\n
Don't they know that their personal conflict creates extensive
\nconsequences for many people. Why don't they stop quarreling so
\nthe Unas students can resume their studies, and so that the
\nlecturers and the staff can resume their work as usual.<\/p>\n
We beg that the authorities, such as the Ministry of Education
\nand Culture, Ministry of Manpower, House of Representatives and
\nThe National Commission on Human Rights, will work together to
\nresolve this problem.<\/p>\n
