        "content": "<p>Stop student brawls<\/p>\n<p>From Warta Kota<\/p>\n<p>Jakarta, as the capital city of Indonesia, is now considered<br>\nby many to be insecure, in disarray and lacking in humanity. This<br>\nfeeling of insecurity is particularly felt when we hear and see<br>\nhow daringly bag snatchers, muggers, robbers and the many other<br>\ntypes of criminals (\"you name 'em, we have 'em\") conduct their<br>\nactivities in public places. In other words, violence is<br>\neverywhere in our midst.<\/p>\n<p>First, there are the vigilante-style beatings and lynchings of<br>\nsuspects by mobs, or the burning alive of suspects leaving<br>\nnothing but charred corpses -- arbitrary acts of brutality that<br>\nshould not be allowed to continue by city residents.<\/p>\n<p>Then we have brawls among students. One would certainly feel<br>\ndumbfounded when one read a newspaper account of the student<br>\nbrawls that appeared recently, \"Dozens of high school students<br>\nhave died a useless death, scores of private cars, public buses<br>\nand school buildings have been damaged\". Apart from that many<br>\nother criminal acts have been committed by students, including<br>\nbus hijackings and other offenses. All of these have led us to be<br>\ndeeply concerned about the fate of the up and coming generation.<\/p>\n<p>In view of the above facts, it is high time we did something:<br>\nin the name of humanity, we must try our best to put an end to<br>\nstudent brawling. Parents, teachers, school principals, police,<br>\nthe city administration, and the people's representatives<br>\ntogether must play a more significant role in order to seek<br>\neffective ways of overcoming these problems.<\/p>\n<p>Don't let the young generation die in vain or become<br>\nbrutalized. Those involved in brawls are just like hoodlums,<br>\nbrandishing weapons and throwing stones practically at anything<br>\nor, worse still, stripping passengers of their belongings.<br>\nLet us vow to stop this disruption and make Jakarta a peaceful<br>\nplace to live in.<\/p>\n<p>ERWIN H AL<\/p>\n<p>Jakarta<\/p>",
