        "content": "<p>'Stop levies on migrant workers'<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: A labor recruitment association urged the government<br>\non Tuesday to stop the collection of levies on prospective<br>\nmigrant workers who it said were already economically burdened by<br>\nthe recent fuel price hikes.<\/p>\n<p>The Asia-Pacific Labor Exporter Association (Ajaspac) said<br>\nmany workers have been complaining about a number of levies<br>\nimposed by the Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration before<br>\ntheir departure abroad.<\/p>\n<p>\"Before their departure, workers have been charged to pay for<br>\nan overseas working card (KTKLN), pre-departure course and an<br>\nonline information system. These levies have put an extra burden<br>\non amid the fuel price increases,\" Ajaspac spokesman Halomoan<br>\nHutapea said.<\/p>\n<p>Halomoan said workers have been charged Rp 60,000 (US$6) each<br>\nto obtain overseas working cards, Rp 50,000 for the pre-departure<br>\ntraining course and between Rp 10,000 and Rp 15,000 for<br>\nmembership of the online information system.<\/p>\n<p>He said labor exporters have also had to pay many illegal<br>\nlevies for workers. --JP<\/p>",
