        "content": "<p>Stop developing real estate in Ancol, councilors plead<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Expansion of a residential area in Ancol, North<br>\nJakarta, should be stopped to avoid disrupting operations at<br>\nTanjung Priok seaport, councilors said.<\/p>\n<p>Chairman of Commission B for economic affairs Syarief<br>\nZulkarnaen said on Wednesday that the seaport needed more space<br>\nto facilitate the loading and unloading of cargo.<\/p>\n<p>The real estate division of PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol manages<br>\nthree housing projects in the 168-hectare area, namely Puri<br>\nMarina, Puri Nusa Dua and Puri Jimbaran. These are eventually<br>\nplanned to form part of a waterfront city: .<\/p>\n<p>Rather than building residential areas, Syarief said it would<br>\nbe better to move a warehouse in Cakung, East Jakarta, nearer to<br>\nthe port.<\/p>\n<p>If Indonesia wants \"an international and competitive seaport<br>\nsuch as Singapore's,\" Syarief of the United Development faction<br>\nsaid, the real estate development should be stopped.<\/p>\n<p>However, Syarief said he had yet to obtain details from the<br>\ncompany on the progress of the real estate expansion. \"There are<br>\nsigns of continued construction (of the residential area) towards<br>\nTanjung Priok seaport,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>Tanjung Priok port now extends to some 604 hectares, with<br>\nfacilities including quays, open storage areas, cargo handling,<br>\ncontainer handling, and passenger terminals.<\/p>\n<p>In 1991, a warehouse at Tanjung Priok was moved to Cakung<br>\ngiven inadequate space at Tanjung Priok.<\/p>\n<p>The company is part of the PT Pembangunan Jaya group, with<br>\nmore than 80 percent of its shares owned by the city<br>\nadministration.<\/p>\n<p>The residential areas in Ancol include townhouses, sports<br>\nfacilities, public halls, parks and docking facilities for<br>\nyachts.<\/p>\n<p>Syarief added that the city administration must also review<br>\nthe urban design guidelines regarding the development of the<br>\nnorthern areas of North Jakarta. He said various \"interests\" of<br>\nlarge companies influenced the drawing up of the guidelines in<br>\nAncol. (07)<\/p>",
