I have every reason to be happy and hope that the police will
\nbe successful in their "Golden Zebra" operation, so that traffic
\ndiscipline can be satisfactorily implemented throughout
\nIndonesia. Moreover, we also expect that the police will, through
\nthis operation, be able to find and confiscate more stolen cars.<\/p>\n
My parents and I have lost three vehicles. The first one was a
\nmotor-cycle of the Astrea Prima make. It was stolen in Jl. M.T.
\nHaryono, Gg. VII, Malang, East Java, on May 23, 1994. Upon
\nreporting the theft at the police office in Malang, a policeman
\narrived and said that he saw a man (without putting on the
\nhelmet) riding the vehicle without the ignition key in it. What a
\npity that the policeman did not take the initiative to run after
\nand catch the thief, or use walkie-talkie to spread the news to
\nhis colleagues.<\/p>\n
A second motor-cycle (a Black Astrea Grand Exclusive 1995) was
\nstolen from the Pelita Jaya stadium in Lebak Bulus, South
\nJakarta, on June 20, 1995 at about 9:30 a.m.<\/p>\n
I would like to know if it is right for the Jakarta police
\noffice to keep the vehicle document and ignition key of a stolen
\ncar? Whereas in Malang the police office allows the owner to hold
\nthe vehicle document and ignition key.<\/p>\n
Then the third stolen vehicle was a Toyota Kijang 1989. It was
\nstolen from the Tax Office premises in Pondok Gede in May, 1991.
\nThe theft was reported to the police.<\/p>\n
I am no longer concerned about the loss of the three vehicles.
\nI am questioning the working mechanism, especially concerning the
\nextent of integration of the operation and the communication
\nsystem of the police in dealing with stolen goods. I also noticed
\na number of confiscated vehicles in a police car lot.<\/p>\n
I sincerely hope that with the increase of police personnel,
\nthey can upgrade their professionalism and enhance their
\ncommitment to protect the community. It should be realized that
\nthe police are paid by the people. The public is willing to
\nassist the police in performing their tasks, if the police are
\ntrue to their commitment.<\/p>\n
To be frank, the people now are still rather unhappy and
\npessimistic when they have to manage some affairs which require
\nthe Police's intervention.<\/p>\n
To those who are using our vehicles (particularly the second
\nand third ones), although I have yet to continue paying the
\ninstallments on the two vehicles, I would like to offer the
\ndocuments and papers for both vehicles, for the convenience of
\nyour families. For that purposes I can be contacted between 7:00
\na.m. and 8:30 p.m.<\/p>\n
Be informed that I could afford to buy those vehicles with my
\nhard-earned money and through active saving. My apologies for any
\nimproper words used in this letter.<\/p>\n
