        "content": "<p>Stolen cars must be returned<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): City Police Chief Maj. Gen. Dibyo Widodo, widely<br>\nknown for his strict attitude on discipline, has ordered all<br>\ncrime investigation personnel to return immediately all stolen<br>\nvehicles, that they are using, to their respective owners.<\/p>\n<p>\"According to the rules, stolen vehicles temporarily impounded<br>\nat city police headquarters for further processing are not<br>\nallowed to be misused, even by the police,\" Dibyo said in a<br>\nmonthly all-officers meeting, reported spokesman Lt. Col. Bambang<br>\nHaryoko on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, dozens of stolen cars, of different makes and<br>\nmodels, including new sedans, as well as various motorcycles, are<br>\nregistered as evidence at the city crime investigation<br>\ndirectorate.<\/p>\n<p>Bambang said that Dibyo told the meeting on Tuesday that he no<br>\nlonger wanted to see evidence being misused by detectives.<\/p>\n<p>Bambang admitted that the chief knows that some of the stolen<br>\nvehicles have been misused by a number of personnel. This<br>\nbehavior is contradictory to the rules.<\/p>\n<p>The chief gathered all detectives and ordered them to return<br>\nthe stolen vehicles to their respective owners, who can show the<br>\nlegitimate documents, the spokesman said.<\/p>\n<p>Dibyo also urged his personnel to process quickly those who<br>\nhave strong evidence as being the real owners of the vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>\"The process is free of charge,\" Bambang said.<\/p>\n<p>Besides having to show legal documents, owners must also<br>\nidentify certain marks or characteristics inside the vehicles, in<br>\norder to make the officers sure that they are the legal owner.<\/p>\n<p>\"We invite people to call me direct, or the city police chief,<br>\nif they find any difficulties in their efforts to get back their<br>\nvehicles,\" Bambang said.<\/p>\n<p>In many cases, people who successfully get back their stolen<br>\nvehicles have given a certain amount of money, depending on the<br>\ncondition and type of the vehicles, to the police as a thank you.<\/p>\n<p>\"But police are not allowed to ask for such a thing,\" Bambang<br>\nsaid.
