Stickers for public vans<\/p>\n
BOGOR (JP): The transport authority has started issuing
\nstickers for public transport vans in an attempt to stamp out
\nunlicensed operators.<\/p>\n
The campaign began Tuesday, with stickers issued to 30
\nvehicles that were undergoing roadworthy tests at the Bogor Land
\nTransportation Agency, said head of the agency Endang Tabroni.<\/p>\n
Each van will be issued with two stickers to be placed on the
\nfront and rear windshields. The agency has produced 10,000
\nstickers, enough for 5,000 vans.<\/p>\n
Endang did not say how many public vans are considered
\nlegitimate but said the campaign is expected to last six months.<\/p>\n
The move follows a series of strikes by public transport
\ndrivers which affected many people here last month. The drivers
\nprotested the authority's failure to contain the number of vans,
\nwhich they blamed for their falling income.<\/p>\n
The Bogor Land Transportation Agency, which was their prime
\ntarget, denied it had given out too many licenses to public van
\noperators and said the streets were flooded with unlicensed
\noperators.<\/p>\n
The transport agency is charging public transport owners Rp
\n1,700 for one set of stickers.<\/p>\n
The Chief of the Association of Land Transportation Owners
\n(Organda) Ahmad Chotib welcomed the campaign. \"Hopefully this
