Steps to stop student brawls<\/p>\n

High school student brawls have lately reached unprecedented
\nlevels. They take place nearly every day. Each area in Jakarta is
\nforced to deal with resulting traffic jams. The students do not
\nonly create unrest by their actions, they seem to use the
\nmomentum of brawls to commit criminal acts, too. The greatest
\nirony is that the students, who should show better behavior due
\nto their education, display impudence.<\/p>\n
I am greatly concerned, and would like to forward the
\nfollowing points for consideration by those handling such
\nproblems.<\/p>\n
1. Assign a duty officer among the teachers to supervise the
\nsituation.<\/p>\n
2. Ask the students who do not take part in brawls to report
\nto the teacher on duty instead of going home for student
\nmonitoring purposes.<\/p>\n
3. The local police station must take an active part in
\nreporting the brawls in their area.<\/p>\n
4. Concrete and strict sanctions must be given to students who
\nparticipate in brawls. If necessary, the students can be
\nsuspended from school.<\/p>\n
Hopefully, implementation of the above measures would be
\nsufficiently effective in discouraging students from brawling. At
\nleast the measures can serve as shock therapy to them. It is
\nbetter to make a small sacrifice than to be haunted by unrest and
\nfear, surrounded by traffic jams and unsafe street conditions,
\nwhile there are no visible steps taken toward a solution to the
\ndaily brawls on the streets.<\/p>\n
