Stellantis and PT Indomobil National Distributor have signed a strategic partnership to bring Leapmotor electric vehicles to Indonesia starting in 2026, with vehicles to be assembled locally. The collaboration leverages Leapmotor's advanced EV technology and internal component development capabilities with Stellantis's global distribution network and quality standards, positioning the Chinese EV manufacturer to compete in Indonesia's increasingly competitive electric vehicle market.

Competition in Indonesia’s electric vehicle market is intensifying.
Following earlier entries by various global manufacturers and Chinese
brands, a strategic collaboration between Stellantis and PT Indomobil
National Distributor is now preparing to introduce new electric vehicle
models in the country from 2026 onwards.

The strategic agreement between Stellantis and Indomobil was signed
in Jakarta. Through this partnership, Indomobil will serve as the
distributor of Leapmotor electric vehicles in Indonesia whilst
introducing the brand’s products to domestic consumers under the
Stellantis Brand House banner.

Tan Kim Piauw, Chief Executive Officer of PT Indomobil National
Distributor, stated that the collaboration forms part of efforts to
expand electrification vehicle options for Indonesian consumers.

According to him, Leapmotor is valued for its robust electric vehicle
technology combination and mature engineering approach. This is expected
to address the mobility needs of urban populations increasingly seeking
practical and efficient vehicles.

“Through this collaboration, we aim to introduce more electrification
vehicle options that have gained global recognition,” said Tan.

Leapmotor was established in 2015 in Hangzhou, China. Vehicles for
the Indonesian market will be assembled domestically whilst maintaining
global quality standards.

Leapmotor’s presence in Indonesia forms part of a global partnership
between Stellantis and Leapmotor. At the international level, both
companies have established a joint venture called Leapmotor
International.

In this structure, Stellantis holds a 51 per cent stake, whilst
Leapmotor holds 49 per cent. This entity is tasked with developing and
marketing Leapmotor’s new energy vehicles (NEVs) across markets outside
China.

For Leapmotor, this partnership provides access to Stellantis’s
global distribution network, quality standards, and automotive
infrastructure. Meanwhile, Stellantis gains an additional electric
vehicle portfolio with a relatively novel technological approach.

One of Leapmotor’s key strengths lies in its internal technology
development capability. The company claims to independently produce over
60 per cent of vehicle components through in-house research and
engineering development.

This approach makes Leapmotor relatively efficient in production
costs whilst enabling faster electric vehicle technology
integration.

The company’s growth is evident from its production scale. In
September 2025, Leapmotor recorded its one millionth vehicle produced
globally—a significant milestone for an electric vehicle manufacturer
that is a relatively new player in the global automotive industry.

Leapmotor’s entry adds to the list of electric vehicle manufacturers
entering the domestic market. In recent years, several global and
Chinese brands have begun aggressively targeting the Indonesian market
amid the push for electrification in the transportation sector.

Should Leapmotor’s distribution strategy and pricing prove
competitive, its presence has the potential to intensify competition in
Indonesia’s electric vehicle market.
",
