        "content": "<p>State transportation firms asked to improve services<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): State Minister of Administrative Reforms T.B.<br>\nSilalahi urged state transportation companies yesterday to<br>\nimprove their poor service.<\/p>\n<p>\"State-owned transportation firms are slower to improve<br>\nservice than other firms like (the electricity firm) PLN and<br>\n(domestic telecommunications carrier) PT Telkom,\" he said after<br>\ninspecting a new telecommunications service center on Jl. Supomo,<br>\nSouth Jakarta, yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>He said Telkom and PLN used high-technology equipment to<br>\nprovide better service.<\/p>\n<p>\"I understand that many people are still far from satisfied<br>\nwith transportation services even from Garuda and Merpati,\" he<br>\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>\"As far as I know, no state-owned transportation firm has ever<br>\nwon an award for public service.\"<\/p>\n<p>The ministry of transportation oversees 17 state enterprises<br>\nincluding Garuda Indonesia airlines, Merpati Nusantara airlines,<br>\nthe Jakarta public transportation company Perum PPD, the railway<br>\nfirm Perum Perumka and oceanliner PT Pelni.<\/p>\n<p>Telkom's centers, officially launched yesterday by Minister of<br>\nTourism, Post and Telecommunications Joop Ave, are in Tebet and<br>\nCinere.<\/p>\n<p>They offer one-stop general service (information and<br>\ncomplaints), educational services (display and sales of<br>\ntelecommunications equipment), and telecommunications service<br>\n(new installation, complaints and registration changing).<\/p>\n<p>General manager of Telkom's Jakarta office, Guntur Siregar,<br>\nsaid the service centers were opened with an investment of about<br>\nRp 750 million for property renovation and equipment<br>\ninstallation.<\/p>\n<p>The new centers use siska, a data base with applications for<br>\ncustomer service orders, plant facility management, fault<br>\nrepairs, workforce management and billing.
