State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi has been appointed Chairman of the\nLayoff Mitigation Task Force. The appointment was announced following a\ncoordination meeting between the task force, government representatives,\nand House of Representatives (DPR) leaders at the parliamentary complex\nin Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday (26\/6).<\/p>\n
\u201cAll parties agreed to request that I become chairman of the Layoff\nMitigation Task Force, as I am considered able to bridge various parties\nand relevant stakeholders,\u201d Prasetyo said at a press conference.<\/p>\n
The State Secretary said that after a year-long formation process,\nthe Layoff Mitigation Task Force is now beginning work to map industrial\nissues in order to prevent a wave of layoffs in Indonesia. According to\nhim, the task force will cooperate with the Indonesian National Police\u2019s\nEmployment Desk to monitor and exchange information regarding problems\nin companies that could potentially lead to layoffs.<\/p>\n
For companies with the potential to make redundancies, the task force\nwill conduct mitigation on a case-by-case basis. In addition, the task\nforce is also paying attention to companies that have already laid off\nworkers but have not yet fulfilled their obligations. \u201cWe mitigate one\nby one because layoff problems are not always related to raw material\nsupply issues, such as gas or coal. Sometimes there are also internal\ncompany management conflict issues. However, whatever the cause, it is\nour duty to jointly carry out mitigation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
From the government side, the meeting was attended by State Secretary\nPrasetyo Hadi, Minister of Manpower Yassierli, President of the\nAll-Indonesia Workers Union Confederation (KSPSI) Andi Gani Nena Wea,\nSpecial Advisor to the President on Manpower and Labour Welfare Said\nIqbal, and the Police Employment Desk. Meanwhile, the DPR was\nrepresented by Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad and Cucun Ahmad\nSyamsurijal. Dasco affirmed the parliament\u2019s commitment to working with\nthe government to mitigate layoffs in the country. \u201cLater, the Layoff\nMitigation Task Force, the government, and the DPR will meet regularly\nto coordinate.
