        "content": "<p>State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi has offered his condolences following\nthe magnitude 6.7 earthquake that struck Central Sulawesi, which\nresulted in one fatality and dozens of injuries. \u201cWe ask permission to\nconvey our deep sorrow over the earthquake in Palu yesterday, which\ncaused one death and left several people currently receiving treatment,\u201d\nPrasetyo told reporters at the Garuda Yaksa Pavilion in Hambalang,\nBogor, on Wednesday (17\/6\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>Prasetyo said he immediately telephoned Central Sulawesi Governor\nAnwar Hafid to ensure the response was handled as effectively as\npossible, including disseminating information so that the public remains\nalert to the risk of aftershocks. \u201cEarlier this morning we also\ncoordinated with various parties, and with the Governor of Central\nSulawesi, to ensure that the entire response can be carried out\noptimally,\u201d he stated. \u201cThis includes continuously providing information\nto the public so they do not let their guard down and remain vigilant in\nanticipating potential aftershocks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) had earlier updated\ndata on building damage and casualty numbers from the M 6.7 quake in\nPalu, Central Sulawesi. The BNPB recorded a total of 1,254 damaged\nhouses and 76 injured residents. The data was based on a preliminary\nreport compiled up to Wednesday (17\/6\/2026) at 04:00 Central Indonesia\nTime. The thousands of damaged homes and dozens of injured victims were\nspread across Palu, Sigi, Parigi Moutong, and Poso. The assessment\nconfirmed the earthquake also claimed a life. \u201cCurrently, one fatality\nhas been recorded in Sigi Regency,\u201d said Abdul Muhari, Head of the BNPB\nData, Information and Disaster Communication Centre, during a press\nconference broadcast via the BNPB\u2019s YouTube channel on Wednesday\n(17\/6).<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, 1,834 families, or approximately 5,784 individuals,\nwere recorded as affected by the earthquake.
