State funeral for Solossa<\/p>\n
JAYAPURA: Papua provincial administration officials and military
\nofficers carry a photograph and the red and white flag-covered
\ncoffin of the late governor Jacobus Perviddya Solossa during a
\nstate funeral at the Tanah Hitam Christian cemetery in Jayapura.<\/p>\n
The ceremony was presided over by Vice President Jusuf Kalla,
\nand attended by senior local and central government officials
\nalong with military and police officers.<\/p>\n
Thousands of people crowded Jayapura's main thoroughfares to
\nwitness the funeral motorcade and to pay their last respects to
\nthe man who had played a key role in the birth of special
\nautonomy status for the resource-rich but underdeveloped province
\nsince he was appointed governor in 2000.<\/p>\n
Solossa died late on Monday in what doctors believe was a
\nheart attack. He was 57 years old.<\/p>\n
In his speech, Kalla described Sollosa as one of the country's
\nfinest men, who had contributed much to the development of his
\nprovince and the country. He urged other Indonesians to walk in
\nSolossa's footsteps.<\/p>\n
\"He has provided us good examples in many areas that we can
\nfollow,\" Kalla said.<\/p>\n
He also offered the condolences of President Susilo Bambang
\nYudhoyono to hundreds of Sollosa family members and relatives
\nattending the ceremony, which ended at 4 p.m. local time, in
\nAbepura district, some 60 km from the provincial capital of
