State firm regulations affect five timber firms<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Five state timber companies PT Inhutani I to V
\nwill be treated like private timber firms due to a change in
\nstate enterprise operations regulations, a minister said
\nyesterday.<\/p>\n
Minister of Forestry Djamaludin Suryohadikusumo said his
\nministry would no longer be directly involved in the management
\nof state timber companies.<\/p>\n
He said he would no longer chair the companies' shareholders'
\nmeetings, for example, these would now be chaired by the Ministry
\nof Finance's director general of state enterprises supervision.<\/p>\n
"From now on, the ministry of forestry will only give
\ntechnical supervision to state timber companies. If they need
\ntechnical aid from the ministry they will have request this
\nfollowing the procedures set out for private companies, including
\nthat their presidents have to ask the minister directly for aid,"
\nhe said.<\/p>\n
Previously, the minister of forestry, as chief commissioner of
\nstate timber companies, received requests for aid during annual
\nshareholders meetings.<\/p>\n
Djamaludin, however, said that his ministry would continue to
\nby directly involved in the supervision of the management of
\nstate forestry company Perum Perhutani.<\/p>\n
Unlike the other five state timber companies Perum Perhutani
\nwill still conduct several non-profit oriented activities.<\/p>\n
The government issued recently a set of new regulations
\nrelated to the operations of state companies to speed up the
\nprocess of privatization and efficiency.<\/p>\n
According to the new regulations, the supervision of state
\ncompanies will be handled by the Ministry of Finance.<\/p>\n
Previously, state companies' were overseen by related
\nministries although the minister of finance was nominee
\nshareholder.<\/p>\n
"The transfer of supervision is partly to prevent companies
\nfrom being overburdened with work from the related ministries,"
