Star TV-Indonesia deal<\/p>\n
HONG KONG (AFP): Asia's satellite television broadcaster Star
\nTV said Tuesday it had forged an alliance with Indonesia's pay
\ntelevision pioneer to bring its new subscription channels to that
\ncountry.<\/p>\n
The agreement between Hong Kong-based Star TV, a subsidiary of
\nmedia baron Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. Ltd., and PT Matahari
\nLintas Cakrawal, operator of the Indovision direct broadcast
\nsatellite television service, will also bring viewers across the
\n53-country Star TV network Indonesian productions.<\/p>\n
Under the deal, Indovision group, Indonesia's sole pay
\ntelevision licencee, will distribute all Star TV's new digital
\nchannels throughout the country, starting in the second half of
\n1995.<\/p>\n
An initial package of 15 channels designed specifically for
\naudiences in Indonesia is envisaged, including movie services,
\npopular music video channels, sports, news and entertainment
\nprograms.<\/p>\n
The agreement came after Star TV extended early this month its
\nunencrypted new programming service to Indonesia and the
\nPhilippines via the Indonesian-owned satellite Palapa B2P.<\/p>",
