S'pore's deputy PM to visit RP<\/p>\n
PHILIPPINES: Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for
\nDefense Tony Tan was to arrive on Monday for a three-day official
\nvisit to boost bilateral trade ties and cooperation on terrorism,
\nthe Philippine defense ministry announced.<\/p>\n
Tan is to meet his Filipino counterpart Angelo Reyes and call
\non President Gloria Arroyo before departing on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Tan's visit \"will provide an opportunity for high-level
\nexchange of views between the two countries on bilateral and
\nregional security issues, especially the growing concern in the
\nSoutheast Asian region over the threat of terrorism,\" the
\nministry said in a statement on Sunday.<\/p>\n
The two countries regularly share military intelligence.<\/p>\n
The visit comes amid heightened concerns of terror attacks on
\nthe Philippines over the Christmas holidays, and \"credible\"
\nthreats received by the Australian and Canadian embassies that
\nhave prompted them to shutter indefinitely.<\/p>\n
In Oct. 23 people including a U.S. serviceman were killed in a
\nseries of bomb attacks in Manila and in the southern Philippines.
