        "content": "<p>S'pore, U.S. discuss security pact<\/p>\n<p>SINGAPORE: Washington and Singapore are negotiating a \"strategic\"<br>\nsecurity pact, the city-state's top security minister said on<br>\nTuesday, a day after President George W. Bush announced a major<br>\nredeployment of its troop presence worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>\"We will deepen our engagement with the United States on<br>\nsecurity,\" said Tony Tan, Singapore's Coordinating Minister for<br>\nSecurity and Defense, adding that the city-sate and Washington<br>\nwere \"negotiating a strategic framework\" for defense.<\/p>\n<p>Singapore, a close ally of Washington, regularly hosts U.S.<br>\nNavy ships and aircraft carrier at its purpose-built Changi Naval<br>\nBase. It is a staunch U.S. ally in its war on terror and sent<br>\nmilitary aircraft and a small police training force to assist in<br>\nthe rebuilding of Iraq.<\/p>\n<p>\"Singapore supports the presence of the U.S. military in this<br>\npart of the world.
