        "content": "<p>S&apos;pore to reward nicotine quitters<\/p>\n<p>SINGAPORE (AFP): A year after launching a visually shocking<br>\ncampaign featuring blood clots in the brain and fatty heart<br>\ndeposits, Singapore is switching to incentives to get its<br>\npopulation to quit smoking.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, anti-smoking advocates launched a contest<br>\noffering smokers in Singapore who successfully kick the habit a<br>\nchance to win round-trip tickets for two to London, Sydney or<br>\nHong Kong, plus cash.<\/p>\n<p>The contest is part of an international event organized by the<br>\nWorld Health Organization, which expects more than one million<br>\nsmokers in 80 countries to participate, said Alex Chan, chairman<br>\nof the Committee on Smoking Control.<\/p>\n<p>Singapore has one of the lowest rates of smoking in Asia but<br>\nhealth groups are stepping up their campaign, said the anti-<br>\ntobacco advocates, noting that it took 14 years for Singapore&apos;s<br>\nsmoking rate to fall from 20 percent in 1984 to 15 percent in<br>\n1998.<\/p>",
