        "content": "<p>S'pore to expand sources of fish<\/p>\n<p>SINGAPORE (AFP): Singapore will expand its sources of fish<br>\nwith the opening of a new fishing port and a deep-sea farm<br>\nproject, a newspaper report said yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Singapore, which gets its imported fish from Malaysia and<br>\nIndonesia, will also be looking to China, Myanmar, Bangladesh,<br>\nand India as cheap sources of fish, the Straits Times quoted Koo<br>\nTsai Kee, parliamentary secretary for national development, as<br>\nsaying.<\/p>\n<p>Koo on Saturday opened the Senoko Fishing Port, a 3.24-hectare<br>\nport which can handle up to 20 tons of fish each day and<br>\naccommodate more vessels and merchants.<\/p>\n<p>The average Singaporean consumes 33 kilograms of fish each<br>\nyear and at least 99,000 tons annually are needed to feed the<br>\nthree million population, the report said.<\/p>",
