S'pore to attract entrepreneurs<\/p>\n
SINGAPORE: Singapore on Wednesday unveiled a scheme to attract
\nforeign entrepreneurs into the city-state based on their business
\nplans instead of their educational qualification and salary
\nlevels.<\/p>\n
Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Trade and Industry
\nRaymond Lim said the "EntrePass" scheme will ease the
\nrequirements for foreign investors to start up businesses here.<\/p>\n
"This scheme will allow them to work in Singapore on the basis
\nof their business plan, instead of educational qualifications and
\nsalary as was the case previously," he said in a speech to the
\nForeign Correspondents Association.<\/p>\n
Details of the plan are still being finalized and will be
\nannounced next month, said Lim, who is also minister of state in
\ncharge of entrepreneurship.<\/p>\n
Lim's job includes encouraging the spirit of taking business
\nrisks in a nation whose people are often said to be more used to
\nbeing told by the government what to do.<\/p>\n
Critics have said that for Singapore to encourage
\nentrepreneurship, the government must ease many of the strict
\nrules which have stifled creativity among its people. -- AFP<\/p>",
