        "content": "<p>S'pore supports peacekeeping idea<\/p>\n<p>SINGAPORE (Reuter): Singapore agreed in principle with a<br>\nMalaysian proposal that the Association of Southeast Asian<br>\nNations (ASEAN) should aim to field a peacekeeping force under UN<br>\nauspices, Singapore Minister for Defense Lee Boon Yang said<br>\nyesterday.<\/p>\n<p>\"We agree in principle with the concept,\" he said at a news<br>\nconference here following a meeting with his Malaysian<br>\ncounterpart Najib Tun Razak.<\/p>\n<p>Lee added it would have to be discussed with the rest of ASEAN<br>\nbefore agreement was reached. ASEAN groups Singapore, Malaysia,<br>\nThailand, Brunei, Indonesia and the Philippines.<\/p>\n<p>He had received a \"quite positive reaction\" to the idea from<br>\nIndonesia, Najib told the news conference.<\/p>\n<p>The two ministers had just signed a memo of understanding<br>\n(MOU) on defense industrial cooperation. The agreement might lead<br>\nto joint procurement, \"co-development and co-production\" of<br>\nproducts in the defense area, Najib said.<\/p>",
