S'pore schools protect int'l students' fees<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: As many as 102 private education organizations (PEOs)
\nin Singapore have signed up for the so-termed student protection
\nscheme, which is expected to protect international students'
\nfees.<\/p>\n
The scheme, which came into effect early this month, serves to
\nprotect fees in cases when a PEO cannot continue to operate due
\nto insolvency or regulatory closure, or has failed to pay
\npenalties or return fees to students arising from a judgment made
\nagainst it by a court.<\/p>\n
According to a statement issued by the Singapore Tourism Board
\non Thursday, international students would benefit from the
\nprogram as the process of applying to PEOs in the neighboring
\ncountry would be clearer and more transparent.<\/p>\n
It said only PEOs under the scheme were able to secure
\nstudent passes for the recruitment of international students.<\/p>\n
The scheme does not affect students enrolling in public
\ninstitutions, foreign system schools and world leading
\ninstitutions in Singapore, it said. -- JP<\/p>",
