        "content": "<p>S&apos;pore schools protect int&apos;l students&apos; fees<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: As many as 102 private education organizations (PEOs)<br>\nin Singapore have signed up for the so-termed student protection<br>\nscheme, which is expected to protect international students&apos;<br>\nfees.<\/p>\n<p>The scheme, which came into effect early this month, serves to<br>\nprotect fees in cases when a PEO cannot continue to operate due<br>\nto insolvency or regulatory closure, or has failed to pay<br>\npenalties or return fees to students arising from a judgment made<br>\nagainst it by a court.<\/p>\n<p>According to a statement issued by the Singapore Tourism Board<br>\non Thursday, international students would benefit from the<br>\nprogram as the process of applying to PEOs in the neighboring<br>\ncountry would be clearer and more transparent.<\/p>\n<p>It said only PEOs under the scheme were able to secure<br>\nstudent passes for the recruitment of international students.<\/p>\n<p>The scheme does not affect students enrolling in public<br>\ninstitutions, foreign system schools and world leading<br>\ninstitutions in Singapore, it said. -- JP<\/p>",
