S'pore male swimmers shine<\/p>\n
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (AFP): Singapore's men swimmers, who have
\nshown vast improvements in the current Southeast Asian (SEA)
\nGames, may come out of the long shadow of record-breaking lass
\nJoscelin Yeo.<\/p>\n
"I have spoken to some coaches from Thailand and Indonesia and
\naccording to them, our boys will be knocking on their doors
\npretty soon," said Singapore chief coach David Lim.<\/p>\n
He cited silver medal winners Mark Chay in the 200m freestyle,
\nGary Tan in the 100m backstroke and Daniel Liew in the 200m
\nbreaststroke.<\/p>\n
"They came behind Southeast Asian and Asian champs and the
\nforeign coaches say they are the men to be watched in the next
\nSEA Games," Lim said.<\/p>\n
Singapore emerged with seven gold, 10 silver and nine bronze
\nmedals in swimming at the SEA Games here. At the last games in
\nJakarta in 1997, they won four gold medals.<\/p>\n
The 20-year-old Yeo won six gold medals this time, breaking
\nthe competition records in six of the seven individual events she
\nparticipated.<\/p>\n
Thailand took the lion's share of the swimming gold medals,
\nwinning 13 of the total 32. Malaysia grabbed seven golds while
\nIndonesia took five.<\/p>",
