        "content": "<p>S'pore, China sign agreement<\/p>\n<p>SINGAPORE (AFP): China and Singapore signed an agreement on<br>\nMonday giving top priority to a flagship industrial park project<br>\nnear Shanghai being built by Singapore, which was earlier<br>\nthreatened by a rival venture.<\/p>\n<p>Top officials from the two countries agreed in a memorandum<br>\nthat the Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) is \"the priority of all<br>\npriorities in Sino-Singapore economic and technological<br>\ncooperation.\"<\/p>\n<p>The memorandum came after Singapore Senior Minister Lee Kuan<br>\nYew expressed dismay over an impasse in the implementation of the<br>\n70 square-kilometer (28 square-mile) SIP, which was facing<br>\ncompetition from a rival project known as the Suzhou New<br>\nDistrict.<\/p>\n<p>Lee had hinted earlier this month that Singapore could scale<br>\ndown its participation in the SIP. The SIP, launched in February<br>\n1994, is expected to be an efficient and ultramodern Singapore-<br>\nstyle industrial township in Suzhou hosting multinational firms<br>\nsetting up in China.<\/p>",
