Former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology\n(Mendikbudristek), Nadiem Anwar Makarim, has officially begun serving\nhouse arrest after the Panel of Judges at the Jakarta Corruption Court\ngranted the request to change his detention status. The Attorney\nGeneral\u2019s Office has fitted an electronic detector bracelet to monitor\nNadiem\u2019s movements during his house arrest period.<\/p>\n
Compiled from detikcom, Wednesday (13\/5\/2026), the granting of the\nrequest to change detention for Nadiem was read out directly by the\nChief Judge of the Panel, Purwanto S. Abdullah, during a hearing held at\nthe Jakarta Corruption Court on Monday (11\/5). The change in detention\nfor Nadiem takes effect from Tuesday (12\/5).<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is decided: first, to grant the request of the Defendant\u2019s Legal\nCounsel to change the type of detention of the Defendant. Second, to\nchange the type of detention of the Defendant Nadiem Anwar Makarim from\ndetention at the Salemba State Detention Centre Branch of the Central\nJakarta Prosecutor\u2019s Office to house detention at the Defendant\u2019s\nresidence located at The Residence at Dharmawangsa 2 Unit 1908 RT\/RW\n01\/02, Pulo Village, Kebayoran Baru Subdistrict, South Jakarta City,\neffective from 12 May 2026,\u201d stated Purwanto when reading the verdict\ngranting the request to change Nadiem\u2019s detention.<\/p>\n
Although granting the request, the judge also explained matters that\nNadiem must comply with as conditions for house detention. Among them,\nNadiem must remain inside the house for 24 hours a day and 7 days a\nweek. Nadiem must also agree to have an electronic monitoring device\nfitted to his body.<\/p>\n
If Nadiem violates one or more of the stipulated conditions, the type\nof detention will be changed back to State Detention Centre detention.\nThe panel of judges\u2019 consideration in granting this request is based on\nNadiem\u2019s health factors and not due to other factors.<\/p>\n
Attorney General\u2019s Office Fits Detector Bracelet<\/p>\n
Head of Public Prosecutors at the Attorney General\u2019s Office, Anang\nSupriatna, said that the prosecution team has carried out the execution\nof the said determination on Monday night (11\/5). Anang said that\nNadiem\u2019s movements will still be monitored.<\/p>\n
\u201cLast night the prosecution team has carried out the Panel of Judges\u2019\ndetermination, where for Mr NM it has been changed to house detention,\u201d\nsaid Anang at the Attorney General\u2019s Office complex, South Jakarta, on\nTuesday (12\/5).<\/p>\n
Anang said that his side will conduct strict supervision of Nadiem.\nHe said Nadiem cannot leave the house without permission from the panel\nof judges and the prosecution.<\/p>\n
Prosecutors are also implementing standard operating procedure (SOP)\nfor electronic supervision. Anang mentioned that Nadiem has also been\nfitted with a special detection bracelet.<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, it should be (fitted with a bracelet), as far as I know there\nis an SOP usually used. But I\u2019ll confirm again. But the standard with us\nis like that to carry out (house detention),\u201d explained Anang.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s the same for everyone, the important thing is when a detainee\nis released on parole or (house detention) usually fitted with a\nbracelet,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
In addition to the use of digital technology, prosecutors are\ncoordinating with authorities to guard Nadiem\u2019s residence.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe cannot leave the house without permission from the Panel of\nJudges and the Prosecution. There must be permission. We are also\nworking with security apparatus (police),\u201d said Anang.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Nadiem said he feels grateful for the granting of his\ndetention change request by the judge.<\/p>\n
