JAKARTA – The Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM) Lampahan in Bener
Meriah District, Aceh Province, has returned to operational status
following damage caused by a disaster.

The infrastructure currently provides clean water services to nearly
3,000 households (KK).

Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo confirmed efforts to accelerate
the restoration of clean water services to the community. During his
inspection, Dody reviewed the condition of the Batu Lepek intake, which
is a critical component of the SPAM Lampahan system.

“It was damaged previously, but we have repaired it and it is now
functional. The SPAM Lampahan is able to provide clean water services to
almost 3,000 households,” said Dody, as reported on Tuesday (10 March
2026).

He emphasised that the Public Works Ministry continues to push for
accelerated handling of drinking water infrastructure so that
communities can resume receiving optimal clean water services.

Work is being carried out in stages, beginning with the restoration
of water sources, repair of treatment infrastructure, and strengthening
of the distribution system.

“After this, we will add a new Water Treatment Facility (IPA) with a
capacity of 20 litres per second. So, our hope is that all water
supplied to households has gone through a treatment process so that we
can minimise contamination or bacteria,” he explained.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Aceh Building, Infrastructure and Regional
Management Office (BPBPK), Tommy Permadhy, stated that the Lampahan IPA
plays an important role for communities in the surrounding area.

“The Lampahan IPA has a capacity of around 20 to 30 litres per second
and is able to meet the clean water needs of around 4 to 5 villages in
the surrounding area. Alhamdulillah, this facility is currently
beginning to be put into operation,” said Tommy.

According to him, the BPBPK Aceh team has carried out various
handling measures, including clearing landslide materials and sediment
from the intake area and reopening access to the site so that repair
work can proceed more optimally.

In the future, the Public Works Ministry will continue work on the
recovery and upgrade of the SPAM Lampahan infrastructure so that clean
water service coverage for communities in Bener Meriah District
increases further.

“We will also repair the distribution pipes that were damaged in
several places due to the disaster. Currently, several have been
repaired. Our hope is that in the future we can provide broader service
coverage to communities in Bener Meriah and the surrounding areas,”
concluded Tommy.
",
