The South Lampung Regency government has urged residents to remain vigilant following the reduction of Mount Anak Krakatau's volcanic activity level from Level III to Level II. Officials emphasised that the decrease in status does not negate the need for strict adherence to safety protocols and disaster preparedness.

South Lampung Regency, Lampung Province – The South Lampung Regency
Government has emphasised the importance of residents maintaining
preparedness in the face of potential disasters, even though the
volcanic activity status of Mount Anak Krakatau (GAK) has decreased from
Level III (Alert) to Level II (Warning).

“The reduction in status does not mean our vigilance should also
decrease. Safety limits and safety regulations must still be obeyed,”
said M. Darmawan, Assistant for Government and Public Welfare of the
South Lampung Regency Regional Secretary, while leading the weekly
assembly at Korpri Field, Kalianda, on Monday.

He reminded all civil servants (ASN) and the public to continue
complying with safety provisions despite the downward trend in Mount
Anak Krakatau’s activity.

According to him, disaster preparedness must be established before an
emergency occurs. These preparations include updating disaster data,
ensuring the readiness of evacuation routes, and defining the tasks and
roles of each party in facing emergency conditions.

“The principle is simple: we do not want the public to panic, but the
public must know what to do. Remain calm, but do not be careless,” he
stated.

He added that such steps are necessary so that the community can
remain calm while simultaneously understanding the actions required
should a disaster occur.

Previously, Mount Anak Krakatau had been at Level III (Alert) since 2
July 2026 due to increased seismic activity and deformation. During that
period, 224 eruptions were recorded up until 3 September 2026.

The volcano also experienced continuous eruptions for approximately
25 hours from 4 to 6 September 2026, which produced lava flows towards
the northwest, west, and southwest.

Although activity levels have now decreased, residents in the coastal
areas of Lampung and Banten are still requested to follow official
information from the Geological Agency and the Regional Disaster
Management Agency (BPBD) and to remain wary of potential changes in
volcanic activity.
",
