South Korean to sue immigration directorate<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A South Korean businessman plans to sue the
\nimmigration directorate for arresting him on Jan. 12 and trying
\nto deport him on allegations that he was a member of a dangerous
\ncriminal group.<\/p>\n
Young Jin Kim, accompanied by lawyer Otto Hasibuan, said on
\nThursday that the directorate, through a letter dated Jan. 12,
\nordered its officers to arrest him on allegations that he was a
\nmember of the Japanese Red Beret organization.<\/p>\n
\"We regretted that the allegation was made without deep
\ninvestigation,\" said Kim, who was released the day after the
\narrest.<\/p>\n
He said he planned to file a lawsuit against the immigration
\ndirectorate at the Jakarta Administrative Court.<\/p>\n
He said he thought the arrest was made because of a business
\ndispute with his partners in shoe company PT Pratama Abadi
\nNusantara, a producer of Nike shoes in Tangerang, which had a
\ntotal investment of US$2.85 million in 1989.<\/p>\n
Kim said his dispute with the firm was still being examined in
\nthe Supreme Court when he was without warning arrested on Jan.
\n12.<\/p>\n
The immigration office's spokesman, Mursanudin A. Ghani,
\nconfirmed on Thursday that Kim was arrested because of fears for
\nthe country's safety.<\/p>\n
\"Whatever he said, we will deport him because he is dangerous
\nto this country,\" Ghani told The Jakarta Post.<\/p>\n
He refused to give further details on the case.<\/p>\n
\"How could I be a dangerous man. My wife and my son are
\nIndonesians. I have lived here for almost eight years,\" Kim said.<\/p>\n
He said that he was arrested and deported by immigration
\nofficers on Dec. 10 last year for allegedly violating his work
\npermit.<\/p>\n
He returned to the country after ensuring all his documents
