Seoul (ANTARA) - South Korean President Lee Jae-myung has stated that\nspecific conditions must be created so that North Korea does not feel\nthreatened, thereby reaching a point where it no longer perceives\nnuclear weapons as necessary. \u201cWe must create a condition where North\nKorea does not feel threatened\u2026 and can reach a conclusion that nuclear\nweapons are no longer required,\u201d Lee said during a press conference\nmarking one year in office on Monday.<\/p>\n
He added that if the situation in North Korea becomes more stable and\nthe North Korean government\u2019s security concerns are addressed, the issue\nof denuclearisation can then be discussed, noting that this remains a\nlong-term goal. As for the short-term objective, Lee stated that the\npriority is to at least prevent North Korea from further advancing its\nnuclear development.<\/p>\n
The South Korean President remarked that while the international\ncommunity must not abandon the goal of denuclearisation, it must\nestablish short, medium, and long-term targets and engage in realistic\nnegotiations. In the first stage, negotiations could focus on halting\nthe production of additional nuclear materials, banning the export of\nsuch commodities, and establishing an effective moratorium.
