Banjarbaru (ANTARA) - The South Kalimantan Provincial\nForestry Service has cracked down on unlicensed gold mining activities\n(PETI) in the Tahura Sultan Adam forest park area, Banjar Regency, as\npart of firm efforts to preserve conservation forests. Head of the\nProtection and Conservation Division for Natural Resources and\nEcosystems of the South Kalimantan Forestry Service, Rudiono Herlambang,\nin Banjarbaru on Wednesday, stated that the enforcement was carried out\nby the Forest Area Security Team in the Tanjung Forest Management Resort\narea as a step to strengthen supervision in protected zones. \u201cAt the\nlocation, officers found several workers engaged in illegal mining\nactivities. They were then recorded and questioned, with origins from\nseveral nearby villages such as Tanjung, Riam Pinang, Bentok, and\nKiram,\u201d he said. In the operation, he conveyed that officers secured\nvarious pieces of equipment used for PETI activities, with evidence\nincluding one diesel engine unit, three generator sets of various\ncapacities, as well as manual tools like crowbars, hammers, saws, and\ngold processing carpets. As a follow-up measure, he said, officers\ninstalled warning banners at the location points to affirm the\nconservation area status while providing education to the public.\nRudiono emphasised that the handling of the case does not stop at the\ninitial enforcement and assured that the PETI activity will be processed\nto the investigation stage as part of law enforcement in forest areas.\n\u201cWe are continuing this case to investigation. We will not allow the\necosystem of Tahura Sultan Adam to be damaged by illegal activities that\nharm the environment and the state,\u201d said Rudiono.
