South Jakarta mayoralty to move<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The South Jakarta Mayoralty plans to move its
\noffice from Jl. Trunojoyo to a new location further south on Jl.
\nPrapanca Raya, a senior municipality official said yesterday.<\/p>\n
The assistant secretary on economic and development affairs,
\nPrawoto S. Danoemihardjo, said construction of the Rp 54.8
\nbillion ($22 million) project should begin soon so the 4,626
\ngraves on the proposed site could be removed, with the agreement
\nof their relatives.<\/p>\n
The administration would pay for the cost of removing them to
\nalternative cemeteries such as Tanah Kusir and Kampung Atas, he
\nsaid after a meeting to discuss the plan at City Hall.<\/p>\n
The new site overlaps the Blok P cemetery.<\/p>\n
Prawoto said part of the cemetery, covering 4.7 hectares, had
\nbeen closed since 1975.<\/p>\n
He declined to say what the administration plans to do with
\nthe current office, which is strategically located.<\/p>\n
The building is adjacent to the ASEAN Secretariat and the
\nrecently gutted office of the National Police headquarters.<\/p>\n
But the property is not for sale or for lease, he said.<\/p>\n
The new mayoralty's three-block office complex will be built
\non 25,370 square meters of land. The mayoralty office will occupy
\na 16-story building. Two other 4-story buildings will be used for
\npublic service offices.<\/p>\n
