The South Jakarta City Administration is building a drainage channel\nusing the jacking method along Jalan Karang Tengah Raya, Lebak Bulus,\nCilandak.<\/p>\n
South Jakarta Mayor Syafrin Liputo said the technology was selected\nby the Water Resources Agency because the existing channel is no longer\nadequate to accommodate rainwater runoff.<\/p>\n
He explained that the application of jacking technology is the most\neffective solution because it can be carried out without having to tear\nup the entire road surface openly.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis project is planned to last for six months. With the jacking\nmethod, we hope that areas that are usually inundated, from Karang\nTengah to the Adhyaksa area, can be minimised or even eliminated,\nbecause the final outlet leads to the Pesanggrahan River,\u201d he told\nreporters on Tuesday (18\/8).<\/p>\n
Syafrin explained that the installation of the underground channel\nhas a depth starting from 7 metres. Meanwhile, from the upstream point\nit reaches 9 to 12 metres down to the downstream point.<\/p>\n
Therefore, he urged the public to comply with the traffic management\nthat has been put in place by the relevant parties on the ground.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe hope this improvement effort can overcome flooding problems in\nthe future. So, please obey the existing traffic signs and follow the\ndirections of officers in the field,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
On the same occasion, the Head of the South Jakarta Water Resources\nSub-agency, Santo, explained that the jacking pipe installation is\ntargeted for completion in early December. This channel, he said, will\nuse pipes with a diameter of 1.2 metres along 1,298 metres.<\/p>\n
He said this step was taken to address the inundation points that\noften hit the area during the rainy season, starting from the PHB\nPertanian intersection, Kompleks DKI, Kompleks Bona Indah, to the\nAdhyaksa area.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe volume of work is almost 1,300 metres from PHB Pertanian to PHB\nAdhyaksa. The current work is at Pit 1 out of a total of 10 pits to be\nmade. The storage capacity at PHB Adhyaksa itself is already large\nenough to receive flow from upstream,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Finally, Santo also apologised for the inconvenience and traffic\ndisruption arising around the project site.<\/p>\n
