Jakarta (ANTARA) - The South Jakarta Administration has planted\nshallots and maize simultaneously at 187 locations to bolster food\nsecurity whilst making use of productive land.<\/p>\n
\u201cUnused land can become food production spaces that provide real\nbenefits for families and the surrounding environment,\u201d said South\nJakarta Mayor Syafrin Liputo at the Ragunan Agro-Education Tourism (AEW)\nsite in Jakarta on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
He said food security is one of the important foundations for\nbuilding a resilient and prosperous society.<\/p>\n
According to him, amid the challenges of climate change, limited\nland, and the shifting food needs of urban communities, innovation is\nneeded to turn every available space into productive land.<\/p>\n
\u201cI extend my appreciation to the South Jakarta Food Security, Marine\nand Agriculture Sub-Department, TP PKK (Family Empowerment and Welfare\nMobilisation Team), urban farming groups, and all other parties who have\nshown commitment and a spirit of mutual cooperation in making this\nactivity a success,\u201d said Syafrin.<\/p>\n
He also expressed hope that the activity would not be merely\nceremonial, but would also cultivate a spirit of planting within the\ncommunity.<\/p>\n
The collaboration that has been built, he said, must continue to be\nnurtured and enhanced to realise a South Jakarta that is increasingly\nadvanced, sustainable, and resilient in supporting food security.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe public\u2019s enthusiasm in taking part in this activity is proof\nthat efforts to build food security can be carried out collaboratively,\nfrom the family level up to the city level,\u201d said Azizah.<\/p>\n
She therefore invited all PKK cadres, RPTRA managers, urban farming\nactivists, and the wider community to jointly make the simultaneous\nplanting activity a success.<\/p>\n
\u201cEspecially for RPTRA managers, I will monitor and see for myself how\nour shallot and maize plants develop later on,\u201d Azizah added.<\/p>\n
On the same occasion, Head of the South Jakarta Food Security, Marine\nand Agriculture Sub-Department Ridho Sosro added that the activity\ninvolved planting around 325 kilogrammes of shallot bulbs, 17,500 sweet\nmaize seeds, and 4,000 glutinous maize seeds.<\/p>\n
