Sorry, no jeans at the Assembly<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): About a dozen journalists were shocked yesterday
\nwhen they were barred from entering the House of Representatives
\ncomplex after a \"no jeans\" policy was enforced.<\/p>\n
The no T-shirt or jeans rule had been in place since the start
\nof the General Assembly. But it was only yesterday, the ninth day
\nof the congress, that the requirement was enforced, much to the
\nchagrin and ire of many unsuspecting journalists.<\/p>\n
\"Only here is there a fashion police,\" charged one irate
\ntelevision reporter.<\/p>\n
Heated debates were also seen as several reporters argued with
\nsecurity officials as to whether their trousers were considered
\nto be jeans.<\/p>\n
\"Hey, I'm not wearing blue jeans. Even the color is cream, not
\nblue. Can't you tell the difference?\" one reporter was overheard
\narguing with a security officer.<\/p>\n
\"These are blue jeans!\" the officer replied. \"Look they are
\nthick and double stitched.\"<\/p>\n
Some reporters, under the pressure of journalistic duty, did
\nnot bother to argue and either went home to change or bought a
\nnew pair of pants at the nearby Palmerah market. (mds)<\/p>",
