The Sorong Regency Government, Southwest Papua, has allocated\napproximately Rp7 billion for the Regional School Operational Assistance\n(BOSDA) to support the operational needs of educational units as part of\nthe initiative to realise free education in the region.<\/p>\n
The Head of the Sorong Regency Education and Culture Office, Andreas\nTaa, stated in Sorong on Tuesday that this budget allocation is provided\nannually to schools based on the number of students enrolled.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Sorong Regency Government continues to provide operational\nassistance to schools as part of fulfilling the vision and mission of\nthe Regent of Sorong, particularly the free education programme,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
In addition to BOSDA, he noted that the local government supports\neducation through the provision of school buses and uniforms for\nstudents.<\/p>\n
According to Andreas, the free education programme refers to Sorong\nRegency Regional Regulation Number 8 of 2017.<\/p>\n
He explained that BOSDA is intended for schools under the guidance of\nthe Ministry of Education, including private schools and educational\nunits under the auspices of the Ministry of Religious Affairs.<\/p>\n
Private schools, he continued, are permitted to collect School\nDevelopment Contributions (SPP), but the amount must be adjusted to the\ncommunity\u2019s conditions and must not burden parents.<\/p>\n
He explained that the amount of BOSDA received by each school is\nadjusted according to the number of students and the operational needs\nof the educational unit.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis year, we are still budgeting around Rp7 billion. In previous\nyears, the value was almost the same, and that budget is distributed\nacross all educational units,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He added that the amount of assistance received by schools varies.\nSchools with a small number of students, particularly in remote areas,\nmay receive assistance ranging from approximately Rp15 million to Rp20\nmillion.<\/p>\n
These funds are used to support school operational expenses,\nincluding office stationery and other basic requirements.<\/p>\n
According to Andreas, the amount of assistance received by schools in\nremote areas must be understood by considering the high costs of\nmobility and goods distribution.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn some areas, travel costs alone are very high. Therefore, the\navailable operational funds must be managed effectively to meet various\nschool needs,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
