Former Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Sony Sonjaya, is seeking justice collaborator status from the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) in a corruption case. His legal team has drawn comparisons to the high-profile case of Richard Eliezer (Bharada E), who received a reduced sentence after being granted justice collaborator status despite being a perpetrator in a murder case. The Attorney General's Office has already rejected the application, arguing that Sonjaya is a main actor in the alleged crime and has not admitted his guilt.

Former Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) Sony
Sonjaya hopes his application to become a justice collaborator (JC) with
the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) will be granted. “The
law regulates that we can also apply for justice collaborator status for
what we reveal to the LPSK in accordance with the law. So, we have
submitted our JC application, right, to the LPSK,” said Sony’s lawyer,
Krisna Murti, to reporters on Thursday (25/6). Krisna then referred to
the case of Richard Eliezer, also known as Bharada E, who was designated
a JC by the LPSK, even though Bharada E was a suspect in the
premeditated murder of Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat, or Brigadier J. “Do
you remember in the Bharada E case, he was a perpetrator but still
received justice collaborator status from the LPSK, right, so his
sentence was reduced. His sentence was reduced to only one year and six
months,” said Krisna. “That means he was the main perpetrator who pulled
the trigger, but a Bharada E still got justice collaborator status from
the LPSK,” he continued. Krisna stated that the LPSK is currently
reviewing the JC application submitted by his party. He hopes that
Sony’s application to become a JC will be granted. “Yesterday, Mr Sony’s
wife was also asked for information by the LPSK. Then, in the near
future, the LPSK will visit the prosecutor’s office to meet with Mr
Sony. And after that, they will hold a leadership meeting to decide,” he
said. Furthermore, Krisna said his party also hopes the LPSK can provide
protection for Sony’s family, as Sony will reveal big names involved in
this case. “Because the people who will be revealed are all big names.
We don’t want the family’s safety to be threatened,” he said.
Previously, the LPSK stated it still needed to verify the JC application
submitted by Sony. The JC application was submitted by Sony Sonjaya’s
advocacy team on 9 June 2026. LPSK Deputy Chairperson Wawan Fahrudin
said the application is still in the document verification stage by the
LPSK application receipt team. “Currently, the application process is
still in the document verification stage by the application receipt
team,” said Wawan on Wednesday (24/6). In addition, Wawan said Sony’s
legal counsel also submitted a request for protection for his client’s
family through a written letter to the LPSK Chairperson. On the other
hand, the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) has rejected the JC
application submitted by Sony. The Director of Investigations for the
Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes, Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi,
explained there are two main considerations for the investigators’
rejection. First, they assess that Sony is one of the main perpetrators
in the case of buying and selling School Operational Assistance (SPPG)
points. Therefore, Sony is not a second-tier perpetrator who can reveal
other, larger parties in the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) corruption
case. Second, Syarief said that in the latest examination, Sony still
denied his actions in the MBG corruption case. He explained that one of
the main requirements for a JC application to be accepted is that the
perpetrator must admit their actions. “In yesterday’s examination, the
investigators considered that the person concerned had not yet admitted
to the actions he is accused of,” he said on Tuesday (23/6).
",
