Erasmus Huis Library<\/p>\n
Atmosphere: Like other libraries run by various foreign
\nservices in Jakarta, Erasmus Huis is also very well-maintained
\nand designed to make visitors feel comfortable. It has air-
\nconditioned reading areas and a carpeted floor. Space tends to be
\na bit limited in the library room, which is relatively small for
\nits large book collection. It does feature friendly and helpful
\nstaff to make up for any size shortcomings.<\/p>\n

\nphotocopier, Internet and a micro-fiche reader.<\/p>\n

Collections: The library stores 18,850 books -- mostly in
\nDutch, 51 titles of famous Dutch and Indonesian magazines and
\nnewspapers, 289 videos (VHS) on Indonesian history, and 10 VCDs
\nfeaturing Dutch documentary works. For music lovers, the Erasmus
\nmusic library is definitely worth a visit. It has up to 583 CDs,
\nmostly jazz and classical. What distinguishes Erasmus from other
\nlibraries is its law library. If you are a student of law, a
\nlegal practitioner or a researcher, you might want to consider
\nhaving a read in this library.<\/p>\n

The Japan Foundation Library<\/p>\n
Atmosphere: The library looks very \"Japanese.\" It's quiet,
\nsimple, fully air-conditioned, well-organized and adorned with
\nJapanese art, such as Origami, hanging from walls, plus Japanese
\ndolls. Only five staff work in the library, but visitors should
\nnot be worried as they offer a comprehensive service.<\/p>\n
Facilities: The library has sets of audio-visual systems with
\nwhich to watch videos or listen to tapes. A giant TV is installed
\nright at the entrance for people who want to watch news from
\nJapanese Broadcasting station NHK.<\/p>\n

Atmosphere: Since the renovation, this is probably the
\ntrendiest, most modern and most hip library in the capital. The

\nof the wall. Comfy cushions in several corners, fully air-
\nconditioned, with friendly librarians.<\/p>\n

The Indonesian National Library<\/p>\n
Atmosphere: Very library-like, with single booths for readers
\nlining the two reading rooms. Rather dull, but at least it is
\nair-conditioned. Make sure you are fit! The collection rooms are
\nseparated from the catalog and reading room, so you have to run
\nfrom one floor to another.<\/p>\n

\nInternet, microfilm readers)<\/p>\n

\nwith 720,000 books in various languages and from various periods,
\nincluding Sanskrit, Indonesian, ancient Javanese, Dutch and

Another collection is ancient manuscripts from around the
\ncountry, various magazines and newspapers (480,000), cassettes
\n(400), documentary videos (1,000 titles) and microfilms (5,000).<\/p>\n
The library also has rare ancient manuscript collections from
\nthe 14th century. There are around 10,000 titles of ancient
\nmanuscripts made from goat skin, bamboo and paper from across the
\narchipelago.<\/p>\n

The Australian Embassy Library<\/p>\n
Atmosphere: The library reminds one of a home library. It is
\nquite small but very homely, comfortable, and fully air-
\nconditioned with cushions at several spots. The library has a
\nvery serene ambience, visitors can read there for hours. Only
\none, very friendly member of staff serves visitors. But brace
\nyourself for a full body inspection before you enter the embassy
\ncompound.<\/p>\n
