For South Kalimantan Governor Muhidin, 81 years of Indonesian\nindependence is measured by the ability of regions to deliver solutions\nfor the community. Therefore, development cannot rely solely on budgets\nor physical projects, but also on innovation that answers real problems.\n\u201cInnovation is the main foundation for accelerating regional\ndevelopment,\u201d said Muhidin.<\/p>\n
According to him, innovation is not merely about creating new\ntechnology or applications, but also about delivering more effective\nworking methods, policies, and services that meet the needs of the\ncommunity. \u201cWe are strengthening the innovation ecosystem as an\ninstrument of development based on data, research, and community needs,\u201d\nhe said.<\/p>\n
This spirit is realised through the Regional Research and Innovation\nAgency (BRIDA). The South Kalimantan Provincial Government is\nencouraging regional apparatus organisations to produce breakthroughs\nthat cut bureaucracy, improve public services, reduce poverty, and\nstrengthen competitiveness so that development reaches villages.<\/p>\n
One prominent innovation is the digitalisation of public services\nthrough the integration of licensing services and the Kalsel Smart\nProvince platform. This system cuts bureaucracy, improves transparency,\nand makes it easier for the public to access services. Micro, small, and\nmedium enterprises can also process permits more quickly, thereby\nencouraging investment and regional economic growth.<\/p>\n
There is also Si-Apung Kasela, a floating rice cultivation technology\nthat allows farmers to continue planting when their fields are flooded.\n\u201cSouth Kalimantan Province\u2019s innovations can make a real contribution to\nIndonesia\u2019s progress if they are directed at solving community problems,\nincreasing productivity, strengthening public services, and producing\nsolutions that can be applied in other regions,\u201d said Muhidin.<\/p>\n
Muhidin is confident that Si-Apung Kasela can become a model for\nother regions. This spirit is also realised through the Kalsel\nInnovation Award, which brings together government, universities,\nbusinesses, communities, and the public to develop various ideas into\napplicable solutions.<\/p>\n
For Muhidin, innovation must not stop as a pilot project. Innovations\nthat prove effective are evaluated through the Regional Innovation Index\n(IID) and then institutionalised into policy. Their success is measured\nby the benefits for public services and community welfare.<\/p>\n
He also believes the demographic bonus must be addressed through\neducation, digital literacy, entrepreneurship, and mastery of artificial\nintelligence (AI). In this way, the younger generation will not only be\nusers of technology, but also creators of innovation and jobs.<\/p>\n
Nevertheless, Muhidin acknowledged that equitable development remains\na challenge after 81 years of Indonesian independence. The gap between\nurban and rural areas, the quality of human resources, education,\nhealth, and internet access still need to be improved so that the\nbenefits of development are felt by all communities.<\/p>\n
Amid these challenges, Muhidin views innovation as a way to keep the\nspirit of independence alive. \u201cWe want to ensure that every innovation\ndoes not stop at the conceptual stage, but can be implemented and its\nbenefits felt by the wider community,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
According to Muhidin, South Kalimantan\u2019s contribution to Indonesia is\nnot merely about producing many innovations, but also about building a\nsustainable culture of innovation.
