        "content": "<p>Solomons rethinking Taiwan relationship<\/p>\n<p>HONIARA (AFP): Solomon Islands is reconsidering its 20-year-<br>\nold diplomatic ties with Taiwan and may switch to recognizing<br>\nChina, government sources here say.<\/p>\n<p>Taiwan has been a generous aid donor here and in return the<br>\nSolomon Islands has supported Taipei's push for re-admittance to<br>\nthe United Nations, against the wishes of China which sees Taiwan<br>\nas a renegade province awaiting reunification.<\/p>\n<p>But this cordial relationship is now shaky after the new<br>\ngovernment of Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare said this weekend<br>\nit was rethinking the issue.<\/p>\n<p>Sogavare's government took over following a coup in June which<br>\ncame after two years of near civil war between the people of<br>\nGuadalcanal and Malaita.<\/p>",
