The Solok City Housing, Settlement Areas, and Environmental Living Department has conducted a survey in Payo, Tanah Garam Ward, to assess the readiness of sites for building homes for residents impacted by hydrometeorological disasters. Head of the department, Hanif, stressed the urgency of the preparations to enable immediate construction upon delivery of building materials, with a reporting deadline in June, while noting challenges such as limited access via footpaths and the need for community gotong royong to transport materials given the Rp65 million aid limit. This initiative not only aims to facilitate smooth rebuilding but also incorporates disaster risk mitigation by emphasising safer locations away from vulnerable areas like cliff edges, ultimately providing more secure housing for the community.

The Solok City Housing, Settlement Areas, and Environmental Living
Department (Perkim LH) in West Sumatra has carried out a survey on the
readiness of the location for constructing houses for residents affected
by hydrometeorological disasters in Payo, Tanah Garam Ward.

Head of the Solok City Perkim LH Department, Hanif, in Solok on
Monday, stated that this inspection is important to ensure technical
readiness on the ground, given that construction must begin immediately
after aid is distributed.

“After the building materials are distributed, construction must
proceed directly. We are also pressed by the time target until reporting
in June,” he said.

He explained that the survey is to confirm that the land conditions
are ready before the distribution of building material aid, so the
construction process can be carried out immediately without
obstacles.

However, access to the location remains a challenge because it can
only be reached via footpaths.

“The location is starting to be ready, but due to the limited aid of
Rp65 million, the homeowners need to involve community gotong royong to
transport materials from the main road to the construction site,” he
said.

If the land readiness is fulfilled and the homeowners express
willingness, he said, the building material aid will be distributed
immediately so that construction can be carried out promptly.

In addition to ensuring construction readiness, the survey is also
part of efforts to mitigate future disaster risks.

The government reminds the importance of considering the safety
aspects of the location, given that some residents are still building
houses in vulnerable areas, such as cliff edges.

The Solok City Government hopes that through these steps, house
construction not only runs smoothly but also reduces the risk of future
disaster impacts and provides safer housing for the community.
",
