        "content": "<p>Soldiers to have $7m shopping center<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The construction of an Rp 18-billion (US$7.64<br>\nmillion) shopping center to serve mainly soldiers started at the<br>\nMarine Corps complex in Cilandak, South Jakarta, yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>The 20-square-meter building will stand on one hectare of land<br>\nowned by the Marine Corps. It will have three stories and a<br>\nbasement, said the project's owner, H. Ketut Abdurrahman<br>\nMasagung, president of Graha Citra Herodiza.<\/p>\n<p>The shopping center will offer discount prices for soldiers,<br>\nKetut said.<\/p>\n<p>The construction was launched by Navy Chief of Staff Rear<br>\nAdmiral Arief Kushariadi.<\/p>\n<p>In his speech Adm. Arief said the Plaza Cilandak would be a<br>\nshopping, recreation, and sports center. He said a similar<br>\nproject had been set up in Surabaya.<\/p>\n<p>\"Besides serving soldiers and their families with low-price<br>\ngoods, the plaza will also be opened to public,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>The sports facilities are also aimed at helping Indonesia's<br>\npreparation for next year's South-East Asia Games in Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>Graha Citra Herodiza, which is owned by Ketut Masagung and<br>\nRonny N. Hendropriyono, will build the plaza in cooperation with<br>\nthe Marines Corps.<\/p>\n<p>The center will be jointly managed with the Marine Corps for<br>\n29 years and then the agreement will be reconsidered, said Djohan<br>\nPahlawan, the  director of the company.<\/p>\n<p>In this cooperation the Marines Corps is represented by its<br>\ncooperative Puskopal Mar.<\/p>\n<p>A similar shopping center, worth Rp 65 billions, is now being<br>\nbuilt at Cijantung, East Jakarta, in a cooperation with the<br>\nArmy's elite special force, Kopassus.<\/p>\n<p>Ketut Masagung said 20 percent of his investment was fresh<br>\nfunds which would be used for the foundation work.<\/p>\n<p>\"We will try to borrow funds for the construction work from a<br>\nstate-owned bank, but we don't know for sure which bank it will<br>\nbe,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>The profit from this cooperation will be divided equally<br>\nbetween the company and the Marines Corps, Ketut said.<\/p>\n<p>A marine, Sugianto, said he was happy about the new project.<br>\n\"We need an entertainment center like this after long strenuous<br>\ndays of physical drilling\".<\/p>\n<p>He said the plaza was also good because he would not need to<br>\ngo far to buy equipment for his office.
